Category A: Products and Services

Fonium Deutschland GmbH with the product “derBUTLER, the mobile emergency call system and senior telephone“

The product includes a trackable mobile emergency call system and an easy to use, i.e. highly useable, seniors mobile phone offering communications functionality of high use for elderly people. Together with the partners Björn Steiger Stiftung, Securitas and Vodafone the company offers comprehensive service packages including emergency communication, service communication and care services.
The emergency and tracking service can be used at any location and offers security and the above services 24 hours 7 days a week at a press of a button. It has been developed following the design-for-all principles and can therefore be used by climbers as well as wheel chair users.
The jury was attracted by the width of functionality and services offers through a portable device and the partnership with powerful service providers. It is against this background that the award was given.

Category B: Economic Co-operations

Technologie-Zentrum Holzwirtschaft GmbH with the “Handwerkskooperation BarriereFREI LEBEN”

This economic co-operation consists of specially trained carpenters offering barrier-free planning, construction and building as well as special adaptations for retrofitting and new development.
The 30 members come from Germany and Austria and are awarded the prize for their innovative offerings, comprehensive trainings in the different establishments, quality assurance and demonstration centres for barrier-free housing.
A special mentioning is given to the close collaboration with care and housing consulting organisations. It is a cross-country, international group of SMEs with high levels of customer orientation and a successful introduction of innovative products into the market.

Category C: Regional Silver Economy Networks

AGE Concern with the Network“Regions for all Ages”

Regions for All Ages is a major new programme of activity which aims to ensure that the nature of demographic ageing in the English regions is fully understood and that appropriate public policy responses are developed at European, national and regional level to ensure that the evolving regional Institutions within England and their regional partners and stakeholders respond effectively to ageing and the aspirations and concerns of older people. Regions for All Ages is jointly sponsored by Age Concern England and the English Regions Network (ERN). ERN is the co-ordinating body for the Regional Assemblies in England. It is designed as an inclusive programme, involving a wide range of organisations interested in regional policy.
Age Concern supports all people over 50 in the UK, ensuring that they get the most from life. It provides essential services such as day care and information. Age Concern campaigns on issues like age discrimination and pensions, and work to influence public opinion and government policy about older people.
AGE Concern has successfully achieved a paradigm shift towards the creation of a positive image of the seniors
AGE Concern receives this award for its successful approach towards the implementation of a “new culture of co-operation” for the improvement of the quality of life of seniors.

Commendations were handed over to:

MORATH M O B I L with “khargo”, an innovative companion for seniors which is a shopper and a walking frame in one. It uses an innovative design and does not emphasize the frailness of its users.

Senio Fachhandel für Senioren GmbH for “Senio Fachhandel für Senioren“, a retail concept first implemented already in 1992 with special shops for seniors. It is the first specialised trade for seniors in Germany with a broad product range and catalogue supporting the independency of elderly people. The prize is awarded to this pioneer in the area of seniors economy which operates successfully in the market for more than 10 years.

Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr GmbH (VRR) and “fit&mobil and BärenTicket”. This networking activity established by VRR combines the promotion and advancement of the mobility of seniors with the requirement to participate in societal life in general. The product has become very popular and achieved high economic relevance for the VRR which constitutes the largest public transport organisation in Germany. It is unique with its broad partner spectrum making different offerings to the users of the “Bärenticket”.

Förderverein Lebensgerechtes Wohnen OWL e.V. and ist “Informationszentrum Lebens-gerechtes Wohnen”. The objective of this project is the development of comfortable and barrier-free flats and the promotion of these in order to support independent living of elderly people or those with special needs and health impairments in their own homes.
